Canvas for Students

Welcome to Canvas!

Scholar, Virginia Tech’s legacy learning management system (LMS), will be decommissioned at 9:00 a.m. on May 20, 2017. Although you may be using Scholar actively in some of your courses, or relying on the system for project sites or ePortfolios, please remember that you won’t be able to access Scholar after the decommissioning date.

If you have not downloaded copies of your personal materials from Scholar, please act soon! Here are a few questions to consider:

1. Do you need copies of assignments you submitted, class notes, or files your professors shared with you?

Check each of your old courses and download anything you may need in the future.

2. Do you have an ePortfolio located in Scholar?

Be sure to download a copy that can be moved to a new hosting platform. Read this 4Help Knowledge Base article for more information.

3. Have you used Scholar to store personal files?

In “My Workspace,” click on “Resources” to save backup copies of these files outside of Scholar.

4. Are you an owner or organizer of any project sites in Scholar?

You will need to archive your sites or move them new platforms. Read this 4Help Knowledge Base article for more information.

If you already have copies of your personal materials, or if you manage project sites that are no longer in use and don’t need to be archived, you don’t need to take any action — your content will simply go away when Scholar is decommissioned. However, in order to maintain access to your Scholar data after May 20, you must take action. Please do not delay!
